The former owner of Envision Engineering & Maintenance was charged in U.S. District Court in Detroit with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Gary Tenaglia was charged April 16.
The information alleges that between May 2011 and June 2014, Envision had contracts with the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) to provide maintenance for the Blue Deck parking structure at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. On June 30, 2014, an internal audit by WCAA allegedly revealed that Tenaglia and Envision fraudulently charged WCAA approximately $1.5 million for the application of a deicing substance that it did not apply.
In addition, between 2012 and 2014, Tenaglia and at least two other individuals allegedly conspired to commit wire fraud. Tenaglia allegedly emailed a false invoice from a co-conspirator purporting to show that Envision had purchased the deicer when it had not.
The Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation with the FBI’s assistance.
