A CSX intermodal transportation facility will be built in Edgecombe County in North Carolina.
The Carolina Connector will be built on the CSX mainline and run by the Class I railway. The North Carolina Department of Transportation said it will invest up to $118.1 million for site development and roadway construction.
The 330-acre traditional intermodal site is expected to be completed in 2020. It will allow trucks to bring cargo containers to a rail yard where they will be transferred to trains for transport.
CSX originally intended to build a “hub and spoke” intermodal facility in Edgecombe County, but it put those plans on hold in November 2017 as the company reassessed its long-term business model.
