ONE adding 14,000 reefers

Ocean Network Express (ONE), the container carrier owned by the Japanese shipping companies NYK, MOL and K Line, said it is adding 14,000 new refrigerated containers.
ONE said the order will consist of 13,000 40-foot reefers and 1,000 20-foot reefers worth $225 million. The containers will be leased.
As part of the order, 2,100 of the refrigerated containers will have “controlled atmosphere technology, which ONE said enhances the effective shelf life of fruits and vegetables by slowing down respiration and ripening rates to maximize the value of cargo on delivery.
The company did not disclose the manufacturer of the containers or refrigeration units.
ONE said the order will increase the size of its reefer fleet to 130,000 units or 260,000 TEUs.
Jeremy Nixon, the chief executive officer, said, “With this new investment, ONE will be able to further broaden its market position whilst investing in the latest technologies to meet future customers demand.”
