NYK tanker rescues 28 fishermen off coast of Colombia

NYK Group said the crew of its product tanker Challenge Pollux rescued 28 fishermen Friday floating in life rafts off the coast of Colombia.
En route from the Panama Canal to Houston, Challenge Pollux received a call from a U.S.-based Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre requesting assistance with the rescue of 28 crew members who had evacuated a sinking fishing boat, NYK said.
The rescued fishermen were given water, food, clothing and first aid on board Challenge Pollux and then transferred to a Colombian Coast Guard vessel.
NYK said Challenge Pollux flies under the flag of Singapore with Birender Singh as its captain.
