Following Hapag-Lloyd’s announcement in August that it has ordered 11,100 refrigerated containers to expand its fleet, Maersk Container Industry (MCI) says it is manufacturing 8,600 of these containers, including 2,000 controlled-atmosphere reefers.
MCI said it has begun production of the reefers at its factory in Qingdao, China. Earlier this year, MCI closed its factory in Chile.
The other 2,500 reefers are being manufactured by China International Marine Containers (CIMC) at its factory in Shanghai.
