U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s post-9/11 supply chain security program is ready for an update, but the industry has remained concerned about implementing changes.

The Southern California port handled a record 7.54 million TEUs in 2017, surpassing the previous record of 7.31 million TEUs set in the pre-recession year of 2007.

Montreal-based Class I railroad Canadian National (CN) saw its net income spike 156 percent for the quarter to $2.61 billion Canadian (U.S. $2.11 billion) compared with the same 2016 period, boosting full-year 2017 earnings 51 percent to C$5.48 billion.

The Class I railway also reported operating revenues of $2.7 billion for the quarter, up 7 percent year-over-year, as overall volumes ticked up 5 percent thanks to intermodal, coal and merchandise growth.

The car carrier will add calls to the ports of Jacksonville, Fla. and Baltimore in March.

The Jacksonville, Fla.-based shipping company provided ocean transport, trucking, delivery coordination, port services and freight forwarding of breakbulk supplies and utility-related equipment to the island of Vieques.

The two subsidiaries of French ocean carrier CMA CGM will begin offering a weekly service between China and Southeast Asia in February.

The platform, which allows shippers to compare rates and services among 500 freight forwarders, will use a $10 million investment to expand operations and functions.
