Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Co. has confirmed it is looking to buy the now insolvent South Korean shipping company’s 54 percent stake in the Southern California container terminal.

The strong growth was largely due to an increase container trade between the port and Asia, which surged 19 percent year-over-year to 336,791 TEUs.

APM Terminals (APMT) has ordered 12 remote-controlled ship-to-shore cranes and 32 automated rail-mounted gantry cranes to handle containers at the APMT MedPort Tangier facility now under construction at the Tanger-Med II port complex.
